Robert Homer, M.D., Ph.D. left his career as a research scientist based on a decision to pursue a clinical career in medicine and psychiatry.  He earned his medical doctorate from the Eastern Virginia Medical School.  He received his specialty training in psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.  At Beth Israel, Dr. Homer received part of his training at one of New York's best known Dual Diagnosis Units.  In addition for two years he ran a Dual Diagnosis group twice weekly.  He is a Diplomate in the specialty of Psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and Certified with the American Society of Addiction Medicine.  He received a Certification in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the New York Medical College.  He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Homer is especially interested in treating addictive disorders, including dual diagnosis disorders.  He has lectured to senior psychiatry residents at the University of Virginia in Roanoke on psychopharmacology in dual diagnosis.  Among other clinical positions, he had served as the Medical Director of the Intensive Outpatient Program for the treatment of addictions at St. Albans Hospital in Virginia.  Currently Dr. Homer is in private practice in Boca Raton, Florida.  He has a particular interest in treating older adults with addictive disorders and has lectured on this topic, e.g.  "Co-occurring Disorders in Older Adults:  Treatment and Pharmacological Considerations."
